For cost calculation of window and door structures you should choose the configuration of your new windows and doors.
Configuration is the way of windows or doors opening. There are a limited number of ways to open the opening window:
Turning opening (standard) - opening of the window sash towards its vertical hinge straps;
Tilting opening (transom) - opening of the window sash towards its horizontal hinge straps;
Tilting and turning opening (combined) - a modern type of opening, combining the two above mentioned opening types.
Additionally the windows can be unopenable - "fixed".
The advantage of the fixed sashes is their low price, however you should be aware that by placing a fixed sash you will complicate not only the ventilation of the room, but also washing of the windows from the outside.
The casement windows can be distinguished
Casement window is a window, two sashes of which swings without stand (impost) between them.
Casement windows are the windows where the two sashes are latching with each other during closing and not with a bulkhead (impost).
Casement window feature is in junction of the two sashes. The difference of casementwindow is that the sashes are interdependent on each other and the crank is playing a major role. The main sash can be opened only if the second sash with the crank has been opened. Without crank the sash of the casement window cannot be opened by tilting and turning method.
Casement windows were out of use for a long time. But now, thanks to new technologies, they're popular again because they have perimeter locking mechanism that provides tightness and the anti break in.
Casement windows are used if there is a need to install an opening of more than 1 m width. They provide maximum clear space of a window opening or doorway.
Casement doors are suitable for doorways of shops, warehouses, etc. Casement windows are used more often in glazing of balconies.
There are different types of casement sash lock: with two locking points (espagnolettes at the top and bottom of the sash) or one locking point, managed by crank. Casement windows with one locking point are more convenient in use, and casement windows with two points provide the best fitting of the sash to the frame.
