Useful properties of a glass unit
A glass unit is one of the best advances in window structures created by modern technologies. The thermal conductivity of glass is about 2.5 times higher than that of PVC material and approximately 20 times higher than that of air. Therefore, plastic windows employ not ordinary glass but a glass unit. It is hermetically bound glass filled with air inbetween. These products significantly reduce the emission of heat. Our window designs employ special glass – energy-saving glass. This effect can be achieved by covering glass with a thin layer of metal oxide.
It is important to note that without selective coating in double glazing it is impossible to meet the standard ratio for residential area - 1,8 W/m2*K.
The composition and thickness of glass units vary in a broad range. The most popular version suitable for our climate is a 24-mm single- chamber glass unit; its formula is 4-16-4. This means that two 4 mm thick glass panes with 16 mm space between them are coupled together as a „monolith” along the perimeter of which runs the peripheral thin perforated aluminium frame filled with silicate gel or other desiccant. The gel absorbs residual moisture between the panes protecting glass from weeping. There is no longer any enter of moisture from the ends because a whole end block is filled with a silicione sealant.
